One of my favorite places to visit is the zoo; this is a life long passion. Lucky enough to grow up in San Diego, I had one of the greatest zoos right on my doorstep and many a happy childhood weekend was spent there, wandering around and gaping in awe at the amazing array of animals that were there to be admired. This really made me appreciate the wonders of the natural world.

Whales and humans are both mammals. We are both warm blooded, breathe air into our lungs, have mammary glands, have hair and a four chambered heart. We are both intelligence species and family oriented.

When most people think about sharks, they envision a the popular movie with a Great White cruising the ocean looking for a human lunch. However, these marvelous fish are just one of the more than four hundred species that can be found throughout the world, and human is not their first choice at meal time.

Any backyard birdwatcher can become a volunteer researcher for Project FeederWatch managed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Volunteers help scientists track bird populations and movements by counting birds that visit yards and feeders. The final result is a coast to coast snapshot of bird life in North America.

I read an article the other day outlining the eleven species that have been photographed alive before they went extinct. It is sad to know that in the last one hundred and fifty years eleven species of animals have went extinct as a direct result of man. Each one of these animals was hunted to extinction for food, fur, or considered a nuisance. How many more animals will be extinct in another one hundred and fifty years?

Whale family structure and its intricacy has been the subject of much scholarship and study on the part of biologists and those people who are just fascinated by these beautiful and extremely intelligent mammals. Their family structures are renowned for the complexity of their arrangement, with the three main components being the bull, the cow and her calf.

When I went out on Saturday with 3 clients, the tide was falling pretty well so we took off for the backside of San Jose island to hit the cuts where the back lakes drain into Aransas Bay. Sure enough some redfish where sitting outside the cuts.

After some practice lessons, my two clients that couldn’t cast worth a darn at first, improved enough to attempt to hit the fishing holes and hook into some fish, for my first evening fishing trip of the week.
