Methods in Killing Bedbugs
There are some homeowners who immediately hire an exterminator in getting rid of the bedbugs. Perhaps they didnt know that they can get rid of the bedbugs on their own. Yes, you can kill bedbugs. You just have to be determined and patient enough to finish the treatment.
Another effective way of killing bedbugs is by using insecticides. These can be bought in sprays or in dust form. If you are using insecticides, always follow the instructions properly. And the insecticides need to be handled properly as these can be poisonous.
Another way to kill bedbugs is through extreme heat. Steam clean the infested material. In this procedure, make sure that the material will withstand this method because some surfaces get destroyed by steam cleaning.
Another way of using extreme heat is through sun exposure. You can expose the infested furniture under the sun. Leave it these for some time.
Before steam cleaning or exposing the furniture, make sure that you scrub and vacuum the surfaces first.
Bedbugs can also be killed by diatomaceous soil. The particles of this soil have jagged edges which can cut through bodies of bedbugs. As for the soil harming you or an animal, you have nothing to worry about because the particles are too small to do that. Remember to scrub and vacuum the surfaces before you scatter the soil. Scatter the soil around and on infested materials and leave it there for a couple of days. Vacuum after a couple of days.
You can also make use of a mattress cover to kill bedbugs. If only your mattress is infested, seal this inside a mattress cover with zippers along the side. This cover ensures that bedbugs will not be able to feed on your blood. No food means death by starvation. It usually takes at least 6 months to kill bedbugs using this method.
The used vacuum bag must always be disposed properly. This means that you must seal it inside a plastic bag to ensure that live eggs and bedbugs will not be transmitted. Never leave the used vacuum bag around the house.
