Where To Look For Bed Bugs And How To Get Rid Of Them

Marks from bed bug bites will most likely materialise on skin that remains bare while one sleeps - the arms and legs, face and neck are all usually bitten - and it is to these areas one is advised to turn when looking for indications of the mites.

The important sign, then, is the aftermath of an insect bite, irritating and itching, and this must be checked thoroughly to be sure whether it results from Bed Bugs or other causes.

As we have said the Bed Bug is a night breeding insect and it desires to feed on our blood. It also needs to hide, and this is why it lives in our beds and other items. Although the Bed Bug does not nest like a number of other similar mites, it does move to suitable places, so that several will hide together in the folds of a mattress, the inside of covers and linings and other dark and warm places.

This ability to hide does make the Bed Bug a chore to find, but once you are aware where to look - and are aware of the presence of the little mites - it is a case of using a routine to determine the places where they will be living.

Bed Bugs are on many occasions brought into the home by individuals who have been on a journey, and have possibly slept on a number of unknown and frequently used beds. It is not necessarily a case of ill hygiene, however, as no end of hotels and guest houses have also been the originators of infestations. The reason for this is that the miniature bug is well trained at hiding and breeds - as we have seen - unnervingly quickly; with one female bug laying at least five eggs per day it is clear to see how quickly the colony can expand.

The opening step is to do away with the affected mattress and any other things that may be infested by the creatures. This may sound like worrying action to many but it is important to know that getting rid of all the eggs and bugs with off the shelf remedies may not be fully successful.

Also, all items , covers and linings that have been seen to harbour bugs - or are suspected of having been - need to be thoroughly put through the wash; if possible this will best be done on the hottest notch possible as a sure way to kill the bugs.
