How to Get Rid of Fleas And Ticks The Natural Way

There are many people I have spoken to are looking for a more natural way of handling flea problems with their pets. There are natural methods available that we will talk about in this article. Throw away all those environmentally unfriendly choices and use our solutions with confidence for the safety of your pet.

Wanting to keep your pet happy and healthy is something we all strive for. Keeping our children safe and healthy is also a concern. Chemical flea treatments are something we have all heard can be harmful to both our pets and kids.

First on our list is something as common as brewers yeast. Mix a little of that with a small amount of garlic in your dogs food to act as a natural repellent. Do not use the garlic for cats because garlic and onions are toxic for cats. Another option is to squeeze lemon or orange juice on your pet’s fur and massage it into their fur for a citrus smelling repellent.

Regular brushing will keep flea infestations down. When bathing your dog, use a citrus smelling dish soap to also act as a repellent. Fleas don’t have the ability to hold onto the hairs so hosing your dog or cat down with water in a tub works to keep the fleas off.

Beneficial nematode worms work great in your garden. These are not the worms that cause heart worms so not to worry. These beneficial worms feed off the flea larva so having them in your garden and yard is a plus. Keeping your floors swept and carpets vacuumed will also help.

Ticks live in wooded areas in tall grass. Ticks are attracted to the warmth from the body. A good way to keep your dog tick free or to minimize the flea infestation is to cover them with an old T-shirt and use socks like leg warmers. I know it sounds funny but it will not only protect your pet to a degree, but definitely get people to notice you and your pet.

Puppies and babies used to be the all American “chick magnet”; but now there’s another ploy for you guys to try. One way we suggest, kooky as it sounds, to deter ticks is to take your old T-Shirt and put it on the dog. And compliment that look with a pair of socks work like leg warmers to protect your dog’s legs.

You can use rose geranium oil on the inside of your dog’s collar and on their fur to repel ticks. It’s a natural repellent for dogs but is not suggested for cats. Cats have severe reactions to all essential oils so steer clear of those for you cats.

Now that you have a few alternate means of combating fleas and ticks, you can feel confident that your pets will remain bug-free throughout the year. Summer time is a particularly hard time where fleas and ticks are concerned so keep your pet happy and critter free by using these safe and environment friendly tricks. Just remember that proper removal of ticks is essential.
