How to Choose a Ferret
About the Ferret
Archeological remains of the ferret have been dated to 1500BC. Most estimates suggest that the first domesticated ferret was around the time of the domestication of the cat.
Ferreting is now a popular field sport and a great method of controlling the rabbit population. Their long slim bodies are perfect for getting down those holes and warrens, chasing their natural sources of food, rabbits and vermin.
The best time to acquire a young ferret (kit) is when it is ready to leave its mother at about 8-12 weeks old. A reputable breeder is advised! A good healthy kit will be full of life, with a good shine to the coat and lovely bright eyes.
It is always a useful bonus to be able to see or even handle its parents. It will give you an indication of how your kit will develop into an adult ferret.
A few facts about ferrets:-
Male ferrets - Hobs
